چکیده

The influences of short chain branching (SCB) and molecular weight (Mw) of low density polyethylene (LDPE) on its melt miscibility with polypropylene (PP) were investigated by rheological techniques. Rheological measurement and different data-treatment techniques as well as rheological models suggest that blends of PP with LDPE of high SCB (22 CH3/1000 C) are miscible at all compositions. However, blends of LDPE with low SCB (8.3 CH3/1000 C) are immiscible in the LDPE-rich and miscible in PP-rich regimes. It was suggested that matching the conformations of PP and LDPE and matching the Mw of LDPE and PP is a key to the melt miscibility of PP/LDPE blends. The experimental results are in agreement with theoretical predictions on the miscibility of polyolefin blends.

Rheological study of heterogeneities in melt blends of ZN-LLDPE and LDPE: Influence of Mw and comonomer type, and implications for miscibility

It is estimated that 60 to 70% of LLDPE enters the market as blends (Utracki 1989a), primarily with other members of the polyolefin family, e.g., LDPE or polypropylene (PP). Despite the long history of polyethylene (PE) blending and its widespread use, many questions about the homogeneity of such blends, with obvious implications for thermodynamics and for the rheology, are still not answered t...

Effect of Short Chain Branching of LDPE on its Miscibility with Linear HDPE

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) has a linear structure with very little or no branching and possesses a high degree of crystallinity, but it is difficult to process. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) however has a chaotic structure with short and long branches and is easy to process. Blending of polyethylenes (PEs) is a common industrial practice. The principal reasons behind the blending of PEs...

Rheological Study of the Miscibility of LLDPE/LDPE Blends and the Influence of Tmix

Blends of LLDPE and LDPE combine the favorable mechanical properties of the LLDPE with the ease of processing of LDPE. Yet, the melt rheological consequences of blending LLDPE and LDPE have received far less attention than have linear/linear or linear/ branched blends (1). Previous reports showed that blends of LLDPE/LDPE were either immiscible or partially miscible (2–5). Considering the compo...

Implications of LDPE Branching and Mw on Thermal and Mechanical Properties of PP/LDPE Blends

The influences of short chain branching (SCB) and molecular (Mw) weight of low density polyethylene (LDPE) on the solid state properties of polypropylene (PP)-LDPE blends were investigated by mechanical and thermal techniques. DSC analysis of all blends exhibit a double melting peak at all compositions studied thus suggesting that both PP and LDPE crystals exist separately in the solid state. I...

The influence of branching efficiency on the rheology and morphology of melt state long chain branched polypropylene/polybutene-1 blends

In this study, the compatibility of the blends of polypropylene (PP) and polybutene-1(PB-1) homopolymer before and after long chain branching process were studied. The blends were prepared and long-chain branched directly via reactive extrusion process in presence of free radical initiator and trimethylolpropane tri methacrylate (TMPTMA) poly functional monomer. The optimum percentage of TMPTMA...
